Calypso's short-term farmer training intensives offer accelerated, farm-based courses focused on special skills and topics in farming, gardening, and homesteading.
Four Day Farming Intensive

July 27 – 30, 2023
9am-5pm each day

Calypso’s Four Day Intensive is a hands-on training course focused on small-scale, diversified farming. The program introduces students to a broad array of small-scale farming techniques with the goal of providing an educational introduction from which aspiring farmers can embark on their own successful farms, food projects or homesteads.

Topics include:

    • Understanding soil health and composting
    • Techniques used in vegetable, flower and herb production
    • Intro to small scale animal husbandry
    • Bee Keeping Overview
    • Apple Orchard Management
    • Seed Saving

General Info & Policies

COST: The program cost listed above includes all instruction and use of tools. It does not include camping or food but those may be added on (see below). Please contact us is you're interested in a payment plan!

*PAY WHAT YOU CAN: Calypso’s Pay What You Can initiative is designed to support our friends and neighbors in need. Both registration and camping are available on a Pay What You Can basis, up to 50% off. The funds available for Pay What You Can discounts are limited and it is our hope that those who need it most will be able to benefit. We ask that you keep the broader community in mind and if you’re able to pay in full, please do - your extra dollars will support someone who is unable to.

CAMPING: Participants have the option to stay-off farm during the program, however, rustic on-farm camping accommodations are available for those who need it. Campers will have access to a shared sauna, outhouse, and cooking space.

  • Room & Board add-on: $160
    • Includes camping (tent, cot and sleeping bag) and food (basic cooking staples and fresh vegetables) from Wednesday-Sunday.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Days are very full during these intensive programs! All instruction is interactive and hands-on, and you can expect to be outside most, if not all, of the day.

CANCELLATION POLICY: For cancellations made more than 60 days prior to the start of the program, a full refund may be given minus credit card processing fees. Should you need to cancel your registration 60 days or less prior to the start of the program, a partial refund equal to half of your registration may be given.
