Spinning in Color: Exploring Complements and Gradients
This workshop includes 3-4 sessions* on Wednesday evenings from February 22 – March 15 (see schedule below).
This spinning class explores using complementary colors. Students will create 3 different swatches using different color spinning techniques and then, based on the results of the swatches, choose a method to use for a cowl project.
Experienced and new spinners are welcome! You just need to be comfortable spinning a continuous yarn.
Class Schedule:
Session 1: Wednesday, Feb. 22 | 5:30pm (2 hours)
- Learn about Complementary Colors, how they work and how to use them
- Practice spinning for consistency
- Spin an Ombre Gradient sample
- Start knitting the first swatch
Session 2: Wednesday, March 1 | 5:30pm (2 hours)
- Spin a Fractal Gradient sample
- Spin a Marled sample
- Spin and knit samples as needed
Session 3: Wednesday, March 8 | 5:30pm (2 hours)
- Share swatches & choose a style for a cowl project
- Start on the project
*BONUS 4th Session: Wednesday, March 15 | 5:30pm (1 hour)
This session isn’t included in cost of the class but is available to anyone who wants to get together for a one-hour check in, share their projects and share some snacks!

Students Should Bring: Your spinning wheel with at least 3 bobbins. If you don’t want to bring your wheel, Calypso has some available for use during class!
