2024 Summer Office Assistant


Part-time, seasonal

Hours: 10-15 hours/week
Position Length: May through the end of September
Work Days: 3 days per week - Mon/Wed/Fri preferred but flexible!
Compensation: $20/hour and vegetables from the farm (veggies available mid June through September)

Position Overview: Calypso’s office is a busy and dynamic environment throughout the spring and summer season! In addition to a working farm, we have many educational programs for all ages happening, often simultaneously. We are looking for a friendly, organized and flexible individual to assist with general office duties and a variety of communication and evaluation related tasks across Calypso’s many education programs.

About Calypso Farm & Ecology Center: Founded in 2000, Calypso Farm and Ecology Center is a non-profit, educational farm in Fairbanks, Alaska. We offer hands-on education programs for all ages and grow fresh food for the community. We encourage environmental awareness in both farming and natural ecosystems, and the farm is surrounded by beautiful boreal forest. Our education programs are all hands-on and place-based.

Roles and Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Communicate with parents and program participants about Farm Camp, Special Farm Activity Days, Farm School and more -- includes sending out pre-program emails and medical forms, and organizing them for each session as they come in
  • Send out program evaluation surveys in a timely manner for multiple programs including field trips, farmer training programs, workshops, summer camps and other educational programs
  • Monitor and maintain Farm Camp waitlist
  • Manage registration for workshops and other programs
  • Schedule summer and fall field trips (knowledge of Calendly software is preferred but not required)
  • Answer office phone and relay messages
  • Assist with other admin tasks as needed

Qualifications:

  • Proficiency working with Google Drive (including Google Sheets, Google Forms, etc..), Microsoft Word/Excel/Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite and e-mail.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude, flexibility, strong willingness to take initiative and to participate actively as a member of a team
  • Comfortable making phone calls and answering the office phone
  • Belief in Calypso’s mission (see About Calypso Farm & Ecology Center section)
  • Applicants must have a reliable vehicle or other form of transportation for getting to and from work each day. Calypso Farm is located 5 miles up the Old Nenana Highway in Ester, outside of Fairbanks.
