Farm Discovery Program

The Farm Discovery Program is an educational volunteer program for all ages. You'll learn all about the farm and surrounding boreal forest during a free training session and then share what you've learned by volunteering as a Farm Discovery Guide during field trips and community events!

Sign up for our Fall 2026 volunteer training session!

Who are Farm Discovery Guides?

Farm Discovery Guides are volunteers who help make Calypso's field trips and community events happen!

Anyone interested in learning more about the farm and sharing that knowledge with others is invited to become a Farm Guide.

ALL AGES! Youth, senior citizens, and everyone in between are encouraged to become guides, and families are encouraged to volunteer together! Ages 12 and under must be accompanied by a parent while volunteering.

Availability: We are always in need of volunteers who are available for field trips on weekday mornings and/or early afternoons during the spring (May) and fall (late August-September). This is a great volunteer opportunity for retirees, homeschooled teens, college students, homeschool families or anyone at all with a flexible schedule.

If you aren't available on weekdays but are still interested in getting involved, please reach out! We also look for Farm Discovery Guides to help with our public events on weekends!

Upcoming Training Sessions

New Farm Guides must attend a training session before volunteering on field trips. If you've attended a training in the past, you are welcome and encouraged to attend again as a refresher!

Fall 2026 Training:

  • Friday, August 14 | 9:30am – 12:30pm

Trainings are designed to provide volunteers with skills and information in a way which prepares them to share what they’ve learned with others!

We'll cover an overview of Calypso, basic farm and forest ecology, explain the flow of field trips and how they work, and provide tips for engaging youth during field trips.

Farm Guides will rotate through a variety of field trip stations in preparation for leading their own station. Depending on the season, stations may include:

  • Farm Animals
  • Forest
  • Worms & Composting
  • Garden and Taste Testing
  • Honeybees
  • Wool Crafts
  • Life in the Pond
  • Seed Garden
  • Natural Dyeing

This training is just a starting point. You aren't expected to leave knowing everything about a particular topic! Volunteering on field trips is a great way to practice sharing what you know and continue learning!

Can’t make the training but still want to get involved? Please get in touch! Contact us through the form below, email info@calypsofarm.org or call us at 907-451-0691.
