Farm Discovery Program

The Farm Discovery Program is an educational volunteer program for all ages. You'll learn all about the farm and surrounding boreal forest during a free training session and then share what you've learned by volunteering as a Farm Discovery Guide during field trips and community events!

Summer Volunteer Training : June 25th

Who are Farm Discovery Guides?

Anyone interested in learning more about the farm and sharing that knowledge with others is welcome!

ALL AGES! Youth, senior citizens, and everyone in between are encouraged to become guides, and families are encouraged to volunteer together! Ages 12 and under should be accompanied by a parent.

Availability: We are always in need of volunteers who are available on week-day mornings and early afternoons, which is when most of our field trips take place. This is the perfect volunteer opportunity for community members who are retired, homeschooled teens, college students, or homeschool families volunteering together!

If you aren't available during the week but are still interested in getting involved, please reach out! We also look for Farm Discovery Guides to help with our public events!

How to become a Farm Discovery Guide:

Farm Guide Training Sessions

Trainings are designed to provide Farm Guides with skills and information in a way which prepares them to share what they’ve learned with others! We'll cover an overview of Calypso Farm and basic farm and forest ecology, explain the flow of field trips and how they work, and provide tips for engaging youth during field trips.

Farm Guides will rotate through a variety of field trip stations in preparation for leading their own station. Stations may include:

  • Farm Animals
  • Forest
  • Worms & Composting
  • Greenhouse
  • Honeybees
  • Wool Crafts

If you already have a special skill you're excited to share related to farming or fiber arts, please let us know!

Summer 2024 dates:
Note: You must attend a 3-hour training to become a Guide! If you've attended a training in the past, you are welcome and encouraged to attend again as a refresher!

Can’t make these training dates but still want to be involved? Please get in touch! Contact us through the form below, email or call us at 907-451-0691.

At-Home Farm Discovery Kits

Farm Discovery Kits are a series of fun, educational activity kits for families to explore together at home! Inspired by the themes of the Farm Discovery Program, these kits were created with elementary school ages in mind but include activities that the whole family can enjoy.

Each kit includes an informational booklet to start your journey, a craft, a game, an outdoor activity, a recipe, and a challenge to learn something new!
