Farm Discovery Program

Become a Guide in the Farm Discovery Program, an educational volunteer program for all ages!

As a Farm Discovery Guide, you'll learn all about the farm and surrounding boreal forest during a free training session. Then, you can share what you've learned with school-aged children on farm field trips and with the public at community events!

Who are Farm Discovery Guides?

Anyone interested in learning more about the farm and forest and sharing with others is welcome! Youth and senior citizens are encouraged to become guides. Families are also encouraged to volunteer together! Youth aged 12 and under should be accompanied by a parent.

Please note: Most of our volunteer opportunities, especially field trips, fall on weekday mornings. We are always in need of volunteers who can work with us at this time of day! This is a perfect volunteer opportunity for community members who are retired, homeschooled teens, college students, or homeschool families volunteering together!

Can’t make these times but still interested in getting involved? Please reach out! We also look for Farm Discovery Guides to help with our public events!

Steps to become a Farm Discovery Guide:

1. Sign up through our interest form below
2. Attend a Farm Discovery Guide volunteer training session*
3. Sign up to volunteer at our farm field trips or public events!

*Spring volunteer trainings will be held in Mid-Late April for Guides who are interested in volunteering during our spring and summer field trip seasons in 2022. Field trips start in late April.

Farm Guide Training Sessions:

Trainings are designed to provide guides with skills and information in a way which prepares them to share what they’ve learned with others. Topics covered at training include: Overview of Calypso Farm, Farm Animals, Farm & Forest Ecology, and Tips & Tricks for hands-on education and working with youth.

If Guides are interested in learning more about a specific farm topic like Honey Bees, Aquatic Insects, Gardening, or more, additional training can be provided!

Note: You must attend one full 4-hour training to become a Guide!

Option 1: Tuesday April 19, 2022 | 9am-1pm

Option 2: Friday, April 22, 2022 | 9am-1pm

Can’t make these training dates but still want to be involved? Please get in touch! Contact us through the form below, email Leila at or call us at 907-451-0691.

Farm Discovery Kits

We've created a series of at-home activity kits, inspired by the themes of the Farm Discovery Program! These kits were created with elementary school ages in mind but include activities that the whole family can enjoy.
