Sheep & Wool Day
Saturday, May 7th | 1-4pm
Come up to Calypso Farm and meet our flock of Shetland sheep! Learn about raising sheep in Alaska, handling and washing fleeces, and using wool to make functional items.
We’ll have sheep shearing and fleece skirting demos, spinning and weaving demos from the Fairbanks Weavers and Spinners Guild, kid-friendly wool crafts, and all of our Calypso Wool products for sale!
FREE & family friendly! Don’t forget your mud boots!
GETTING TO THE FARM: Our address is 4780 Old Nenana Highway. From Fairbanks driving on the Parks Highway toward Ester, turn at the Ester Gas Station and we are almost exactly 5 miles up the Old Nenana on the right.
PARKING: Please park along the side of Old Nenana before or just beyond the farm driveway. Walk (very carefully – it’s muddy and probably slippery in some spots) all the way up the driveway. PLEASE NOTE: It’s a “longish” uphill walk and might take you a few minutes from the parking area. The walk up the driveway can be strenuous depending on physical ability. We will have chairs along the way if you need to take a break and rest!
MASK POLICY: Our current policy is that masks are not required outdoors, but are required for indoor spaces. All Sheep and Wool Day activities will be outdoors and therefore won’t require masks, however, if you want to pop into the greenhouse or check out the fiber studio you will be asked to wear one.
WEATHER & MUD: There is a chance of rain but we’ll be here rain or shine! Dress in layers and please wear your MUD BOOTS!
